Some studies compare AI feedback with teacher feedback. However, another approach is to combine them.
A 2025 study investigated the integration of ChatGPT with teacher feedback in EFL essay writing. It also explored the perspectives of eight teachers regarding the ethical and effective use of AI. The system was used to provide more individualized writing support rather than completely replace teacher comments.
Teachers saw value in the combination because AI could generate quick suggestions, while teachers could provide context, explanation, and encouragement. For instance, AI might identify a grammar error, but a teacher could explain why the error happened and decide whether it was important for that learner.
The teachers also considered ethical questions. They wanted students to use AI transparently and avoid submitting AI-generated writing as their own work. They believed students should remain active writers who make decisions, revise carefully, and learn from corrections.
This kind of hybrid feedback may influence teachers’ attitudes positively. Teachers may be more willing to use AI when it reduces repetitive work but does not remove their professional role. They may also feel more comfortable when there are clear rules about responsible AI use.
The study therefore presents AI as one part of a feedback system. The value of the tool depends on how teachers combine it with human guidance.
